Chancey Road Repaving Enters Its Final Nights Between Gall Boulevard and Buchman Highway

The overnight lane closures on Chancey Road are almost done. Pasco County crews resurfacing the stretch from Gall Boulevard (U.S. 301) east to just past Paul S. Buchman Highway started on Sunday, Aug. 9, and the job is on track to wrap around the week of Aug. 20, which means Zephyrhills drivers who have been threading one lane at a time after dark for two weeks are into the last of it.

The hours have not changed since day one: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday nights are clear. And because crews are off the road by 6 a.m., Chancey has been back to normal before the morning commute and before school buses roll, including on Aug. 13, the first day of classes for Pasco County students.

A county update on Aug. 13 confirmed the overnight closures were still in place at that point and that completion was still expected on schedule. Striping comes last. Once the new asphalt is down, crews put in fresh pavement markings, so the final nights of the project are the ones most likely to involve line work rather than paving.

Why this segment matters

Chancey is one of the few continuous east-west connections on the north side of the city, and this piece of it feeds directly onto U.S. 301 at the Gall Boulevard signal and onto State Road 39 at Buchman Highway. Commuters use it. So do work trucks, delivery drivers and anyone on a late shift heading east out of town. That is exactly the traffic that has been hitting the cones between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

It also lands on a corridor that has already taken a beating. The Chancey Road intersection at Morris Bridge Road, west of U.S. 301, was closed through much of 2025 while the county rebuilt failing pavement and drainage, sending drivers onto Coats Road and U.S. 301 for months. County officials said in December that the intersection was nearly finished and would reopen by the end of the year. This resurfacing is a separate and much smaller job on the eastern side of the corridor.

The bigger version of Chancey Road

Pasco's long-range transportation plan still carries a far larger project on the same road: widening Chancey to four lanes divided from Morris Bridge Road east to U.S. 301, roughly 3.7 miles. It is not funded for construction in the near term, and nothing about this month's paving work moves it forward.

For now, the practical advice is unchanged. Give yourself a few extra minutes eastbound or westbound after 7 p.m. this week, and watch for equipment moving inside the coned lane. The county has not named a firm final night, and mid-August afternoon storms in east Pasco can push a night's paving back, so the week of Aug. 20 is the target rather than a guarantee. If the schedule holds, drivers get a fully repaved and freshly striped road with no more overnight closures on the books.
